Christmas 2016 in Melbourne

The Christmas season is upon us! We have put together a list of events and activities you can attend from now until Christmas. We will keep updating it as we go - enjoy!

Christmas Square - City Square will be transformed into a magical forest offering festive fun for families, with a 7 metre, 4.5 tonne living Christmas tree as its centrepiece. Opens Friday 25th of November.

Carols in the Square - Enjoy performances from Citi Opera, Glee Club and the Australian Girls’ Choir on the corner of Collins and Swanston streets. Sing-along to your favourite Christmas carols at this family-friendly event. On Friday 16th of December at 6pm.

Federation Square - Discover a festive playground at Fed Square with an array of exciting free events to get you in the Christmas spirit! From markets to concerts there is something for everyone to enjoy while waiting for Santa to arrive! A family concert, a giant Christmas bauble, projections, markets and more. On from Saturday 26th Nov to Friday 20th December.

Festive Projection Program - Watch Melbourne Town Hall light up with the magical Christmas projections. This year discover the story of the Nutcracker’s Christmas in Melbourne on the building’s façade. A new immersive light show will also take place at Federation Square this year, so you can follow the festive projections down Swanston Street. Opens Wednesday 30th of November to Sunday 25th December 9pm to 10.20pm. Melbourne Town Hall and Federation Square.

Gingerbread Village by EPICURE - One of the city centre’s most popular Christmas attractions, the Gingerbread Village is a wonder for all ages. Spot iconic Melbourne locations including the MCG or MelbourneTown Hall, purchase festive buttery biscuits and remember to make a gold coin donation as all proceeds will go towards the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation. Opens Thursday 1st of December to Saturday 24th of December at Melbourne Town Hall. Myer Christmas Windows - One Christmas Eve. The annual windows are now open in Bourke Street Mall for you to visit. Opened now until Thursday, 5 January 2017. For our review, head to our dedicated page.

Nativity Blessing - Welcome in December by listening to traditional Christmas carols sung by the angelic Australian Youth Choir. Don’t miss your chance to see the blessing of the new nativity scene. On Wednesday 30th of November.

Santa's Christmas Spectacular - A fun Christmas event starring an amazing cast of some of Australia’s most talented acrobatic characters, astounding feats and hilarious antics abound! Opens from Saturday 19th of November to Sunday 18th of December. For more info, head to our dedicated page.

Santa's Magical Kingdom - This popular event will deliver a Christmas wonderland full of activities to capture children's imagination. Opens Friday the 18th of November till Friday 23rd of December. For our review, head to our dedicated page.

Santa's Sand Land in Frankston - Head to the beach to see lands of dinosaurs and dragons, sea creatures and spaceships, pirates and princesses etc all made of sand. For more info, head to our dedicated page.

Santa’s Post Box - Drop off a letter to Santa or a gift for a child in need this Christmas. To receive a personalised reply, a self-addressed envelope and stamp must be included. Gifts dropped off at the nearby StarTrack Express Giving Box will help fill stockings for children in need. Open from Saturday 26th of November to Friday 16th December.

Baby Love Music Fun - The Baby Love Music Fun school is holding a special festive concert on Saturday 10th of December to introduce your little one(s) to the joy and magic of beautiful Christmas music. Head to the blog to win a family pass and for more info.

Santa in the City - Join Santa and his helpers for a chat and a free photo in Christmas Square. Open from Saturday 26th of November to Saturday 24th of December, 10am–12pm, 1pm–3pm & Fridays 4pm–7pm.
