National Science Week 2023 across Museums Victoria


A host of kids-focused programs are coming up at Melbourne Museum and Scienceworks for National Science Week 2023, many free!

Melbourne Museum - Science on Show:

  • Saturday 12th August & Sunday 20th August 10am-3pm.

  • Get a glimpse of some of the rarest and most fascinating species displayed at Melbourne Museum, and stock up on stories from Museums Victoria Research Institute scientists as they discuss unique collections, covering everything from ancient fossils to live exhibits.

Melbourne Museum - Bite-Sized Science:

  • Saturdays 12th & Sunday 20th August midday & 1pm.

  • Learn about tricky stick insects and how to spot them in your own backyard on 12 August. If reptiles are more your thing, learn about and 3D print dragons from the Australian desert on 20 August.

Melbourne Museum - Tiny Tours:

  • Fridays (during school hours) 14th July - 15th September, 10am & 11:30am.

  • Pre-schoolers (ages 3-5) can light the spark of curiosity and explore the museum like never before. Facilitated by learning experts and themed around exciting museum objects that connect children to their world, this 45-minute tour created for early years audiences will invite guests to wonder, discover and be amazed.

Scienceworks - Energy is a Superpower

  • Saturday 19th August, 10:30am - 3pm.

  • Girls and non-binary people aged 10-12 can apply their STEM superpowers in this half-day workshop which explores the many forms of energy we employ to power our lives. of energy and ways that energy can be utilised, while considering the environmental impact.

  • Through captivating shows and fun STEM activities, participants will learn about different sources of energy and ways that energy can be utilised, while considering the environmental impact.
