Under 5s engages children aged 2 – 5 years with art through lively online talks and a making activity.
August’s Under 5s program celebrates Pierre Bonnard: Designed by India Mahdavi. French painter Pierre Bonnard often painted colourful pictures of his home. You can see furniture, crockery, people and even his pets all painted from memory. During this Under 5s, children can play games testing their memory and how quickly they can spot everyday objects in Bonnard’s paintings, while also keeping an eye out for hidden furry friends!
This will be followed by a drawing activity that inspires children, like Bonnard, to find joy in the world around them.
About the artist
French artist Pierre Bonnard was born in Paris in 1867. For more than forty years he painted and made prints of portraits, everyday scenes and views from windows. Many of Pierre’s works capture moments in his home with his wife, Marthe, and their pets.
For Parents, Carers & Teachers
This program will encourage children’s curiosity, prompting them to identify everyday objects, people and animals in an artwork, and demonstrate how everyday experiences can be represented visually.
In viewing a range of paintings with a common theme and spotting recurring animals and objects, children can make interpretations and begin to tell a story about Pierre’s everyday world and make connections to their own daily lives.
