Turn old clothes into something new in our DIY workshops with Alice Pung and Sher Rill Ng.

Inspired by the book Millie Mak the Maker, these workshops are all about getting creative with everyday objects. Be just like Millie and recreate one of her scrunchies or bags from the book but add your own personal twist!

Suitable for children aged 5-12 years old.

About Alice Pung

Alice Pung OAM is an award-winning author, the writer-in-residence at Janet Clarke Hall, the University of Melbourne, and an Adjunct Professor in the School of Media and Communication at RMIT University.

She is the bestselling author of the memoirs Unpolished Gem and Her Father’s Daughter, the novels Laurinda and One Hundred Days, the essay collection Close to Home, as well as the editor of the anthologies Growing Up Asian in Australia and My First Lesson. Her books have been published internationally, including in the US, UK, Italy, Germany and Indonesia.

About Sher Rill Ng

Sher Rill Ng is an illustrator based in Melbourne. She designed and illustrated for SaaS companies before releasing her first author-illustrated picture book Our Little Inventor (2019 Allen & Unwin). Her work includes Be Careful, Xiao Xin! and Millie Mak the Maker, written by Alice Pung, as well as middle grade book covers for The Twelve by Cindy Lin, The Rogues by Lian Tanner and Winnie Zeng Unleashes a Legend by Katie Zhao.

Sher Rill won the 2024 Ena Noel Illustrator award for Be Careful, Xiao Xin!

Our Little Inventor has been adapted into a children's opera, by Award Winning Composer Emma Jayakumar, presented by the West Australian Opera, which premiered in October 2022.
