Family Day at Powerhouse Castle Hill

Family Day: Materiality is inspired by different materials found in the Powerhouse collection.

  • Design Thinking 10am–3.30pm
    Be inspired by the ‘One a Week’ project by designer Rachel Vosila, who designed 52 chairs in a year, to start designing your own chair and create a small model using upcycled materials.

  • Paper with Benja Harney 10am–3.30pm
    Learn more about paper and how it can be used to create fantastic objects with paper engineer Benja Harney. Add to a communal artwork and watch it grow throughout the day.

  • Glass with Jeffrey Hamilton 10am–3.30pm
    Watch a live stained-glass demonstration by artist Jeffrey Hamilton. Learn more about the equipment and techniques used to create stained glass artworks.

  • Mystery Object Challenge 11.30am and 2.30pm
    Calling all those with curious minds, drop-in and test your sleuthing skills in this family friendly activity to see if you can identify some historic mystery objects.

  • Mars Rover 1.30pm
    Meet our quarter-scale replica of the Curiosity Mars Rover and learn all about its mission from the Castle Hill team.

  • Collection Highlights Tour 11am, 1pm and 3pm
    Explore the museum and discover the stories behind some of your favourite objects in our collection.

  • Large and Complex Object Store Open 10am–3.30pm
    Discover some of the biggest objects in the Powerhouse Collection with this special viewing opportunity.

  • Cafe 10am–3pm
