OUR REVIEW HERE

#sydney A great evening of raw and terrifying proportions last night for the opening night of @frankensteinlive which is on for a short period until the 13th of October at the @theatreroyalsyd 👌

Frankenstein was definitely a first for me, as it was never something I felt drawn to read, watch, or experience due to my fear of blood, gore and horror. However, this production has opened my eyes to a whole new genre of storytelling, though I did look away and swallow my fear at times, I didn’t want to miss a moment!

The brilliant acting of each cast member, many of whom played several roles, combined with special effects and dark music on the @theatreroyalsyd’s brand-new stage - a true game changer for this theatre as it elevated the production. The grandeur of the stage and production heightened the drama, allowing the audience to feel it even more intensely.

Darcy Brown, as Victor Frankenstein, perfectly captured the essence of a meticulous, cold-hearted, and at times, deranged individual, sending chills through the audience. Jeremiah Wray, as The Creature, embodied the role from his very first breath, with movements resembling a child’s first steps, showcasing both the good and evil within. Chloé Zuel, as Elizabeth, played the strong, grounding force Victor needed amidst the chaos, holding things together as everything else fell apart.

This Australian production is by the bright artistic directors at @shakeandstir and the production powerhouse of John Frost at @xroads_live who definitely delivered in monstrous proportions.

Recommended for audiences 14 years+ and I would have to agree on this one as this show does contain some elements not suitable for children (or scaredy cats like me). The production contains horror themes, death and gore as well as stage blood, smoke effects, strobe lighting and loud sound effects/music.

The evening was also a lot of fun having photos taken on the ‘blue/red’ carpet with friends but I definitely need to work on my pose 😅

Don’t miss this great production! Frankenstein is on now until 13th October 🧟 #hosted #invited #frankenstein #frankensteinlive Thank you @goodhumanspr 🙌

Experience Frankenstein, an extraordinary tale of creation and humanity, retold in a large-scale theatrical event.

Victor Frankenstein, a grieving but brilliantly ambitious young scientist, pushes the boundaries of theory and morality to create a living being from the remains of the dead. But playing God has its consequences…

Shunned by society and plagued by an inherited sense of confusion and rage, Victor’s miracle of science becomes a monster that threatens to destroy everything his creator holds dear.

Combining cutting edge production elements with the power of virtuosic storytelling, Frankenstein is a night of thrilling theatre of monstrous proportions - bringing Mary Shelley’s classic screaming into the 21st century.

Update Thursday 18 July - Producers Shake & Stir Theatre Co and John Frost for Crossroads Live have today confirmed an exciting group of award-winning actors, who will bring their gripping stage adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein to life.

Following their critically-acclaimed performances, Darcy Brown (The Play That Goes Wrong) will return as Doctor Victor Frankenstein and Jeremiah Wray (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) as ‘The Creature’.  And stepping back on to the mainstage for the first time since originating the role of Eliza in Hamilton is Chloé Zuel, (Hamilton, SIX) joining the company as Elizabeth.

Completing the cast is AFI-award nominated Anna Lise Phillips (The Boys, Animal Kingdom), Tony Cogin (Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap) and Nick James (A Christmas Carol).
