SciencePlay Kids classes are designed to encourage 4-12 year olds to explore science in an accessible, tactile, hands-on way. Each class, run for an hour, has 3 experiments/explorations that foster creative thinking, problem solving, questioning, observing, hypothesising and all things STEM in a fun and MESSY way.
You only need to come to ONE class PER week as all classes WITHIN a week are the same.
Topics:
Week 1: Separating mixtures
This extremely colourful class explores separating mixtures using many different techniques. There will be loads of water, loads of colours and lots of mess. Participants will make different types of mixtures and then use scientific methods to seperate them out again. PLEASE don't wear nice clothes as you will get colourful!! We provide labcoats and safety glasses for all our scientists to wear.
Week 2: Forces.
In this hands-on session, we'll be exploring forces - pushes and pulls. We'll experiment with gravitational force through the creation of ping-pong ball mazes, magnetic force through the creation of magnetic powered cars and all sorts of other forms of direct forces (pushes, pulls and chain reactions) through experimentation of tabletop mega sized marble runs.
ATTENTION: This class uses marbles during the session so please avoid bringing younger siblings if possible as these can pose a choking hazard for small children or children who still mouth objects.
Come along and get your science on!!
Sessions are held in the "Lab" in Millers Junction, 32 Lobelia Drive, Altona North
An ADULT must accompany children for the duration of the session (60min). If 2-3 children are coming in a group, 1 adult is sufficient (1 per child is not needed.... we just need to make sure that each group or family has an adult that can help with any tricky bits or things that might be challenging in the fine motor skill department - eg opening lids etc).
