On Australia Day Victorians are invited to witness a 21-gun salute by the Royal Australian Artillery at the Lower Forecourt of the Shrine of Remembrance.
The salute is a ceremony that originated in the 14th century. It is considered a gesture of friendship and trust.
The 21-gun salute will be held from 12:00 pm, concluding at 12:15 pm.
Guests to the forecourt are advised that the guns will be very loud. Those bringing children or pets are recommended to maintain an appropriate distance from the salute.
A heritage aircraft from The Royal Australian Air Force Heritage Aircraft Fleet will do a flypast which can be seen from the Shine of Remembrance.
The Shrine of Remembrance is just a short walk from Government House.
Guests to the salute may also be interested in attending the Government House Open Day, running on the same day from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm.
