Join a celebration of Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures for Mabo Day.
Curated by Meriam/Yidinji/Dutch creative Lisa Maza, this free community concert is headlined by rap, hip-hop, spoken word and pop artist, Mau Power.
There will also be dance and song performances from Mui Mui Bumer Gedlam (Deep Sounds from Home), music from composer and performer John Wayne Parsons, and singer/songwriter, Candice Lorrae of The Merindas. Writer, activist and lawyer on the ground-breaking Mabo case, Dr. Bryan Keon-Cohen AM QC will speak about Native Title.
Mabo Day commemorates Meriam man Eddie Koiki Mabo and his successful efforts to overturn the legal fiction of terra nullius, or ‘land belonging to no-one’.
