Celebrate your unique family history and learn the art of storytelling through pictures in this special school holiday class by photographer Pia Johnson, the artist behind the Re-Orient exhibition.
The Immigration Museum is located in Customs House – a place that, for many years had the power to decide who would and would not be allowed to live in Australia.
In Re-Orient, Chinese-Italian Australian photographer Pia Johnson uses photographs of herself, taken across this building, to tell stories of identity and belonging in places that are not always welcoming of everyone.
In this family-friendly class, Pia facilitates intergenerational discussions where children can share their family histories and tell their migration stories through photography.
Please bring along a smartphone to participate in this class. Alternatively, art materials will be provided for those that would like to draw or collage their stories.
