Box Machine! Dance Box!

  • Abbotsford Convent (map)

BOX MACHINE!  is a fantastic new large-scale and interactive exhibition for children and their adults, designed and delivered by the Melbourne-based artists, Polyglot Theatre performer Mischa Long and Box Wars founder Ross Koger.

Giant heavy-duty cardboard machines, rollers, pipes, cogs and taps line in the Magdalen Laundry at the Abbotsford Convent is ready for children to connect and deconstruct like giant building blocks. In this way, redundant laundry and machines that haunt the remnants of the original space are re-endowed as giant playthings for children’s huge imaginary re-constructions.

  • BOXY HEAD!
Created by the artist, Ross KogerBOXY HEAD! is a school holiday program where kids can create a whacky and unique costume made from precision-cut cardboard pieces. The program allows kids to mix and match all sorts of funky headpieces and silly outfits - like a costume building playground. Children aged 12 and under can create a wearable masterpiece, and then take it home to show off their one-of-a-kind look.

  • DANCE BOX!
Children aged 12 and under (grown-ups allowed) are invited to create and perform dance in the gigantic landscape of the BOX MACHINE! Kids can make and wear the costume of their dreams, rehearse an awesome, short performance to some loud, boxy music with Melbourne-based choreographer Sarah Aiken and bring the wild, wacky machine world to life alongside family and friends. 22 and 25 January 2025.
