Everyday’s A Birthday (Reviewed)

#melbourne REVIEW - Every day is a birthday! exhibition at Lennox St. Gallery, Richmond.

How awesome is this! @jomacgregor_melbourne visited the Lennox St. Gallery today to checkout their latest exhibition “Every day is a birthday!” and went back in time!

Here’s her review of the exhibition: “Donovan Christie’s Women’s Weekly Cake Book exhibition “Every day is a birthday!” is the perfect time machine ride back to the 80s and 90s! Everyone had a copy in their home (we still do!) and we would pour over our selection even the day after our birthdays, just to make sure we were properly ready for the year to come.

The venue, Lennox St Gallery in Richmond, is small but it’s like a visit to see old friends plastered all over the walls (and the duck cake has never been more fresh in everyone’s minds since Bluey also brought it to the forefront of our brains again.)

If visiting with kids, I recommend looking through the cake book together first at home, then taking a walk through the gallery and then going for lunch or dinner nearby as a family. Entry is free and on until 1st November. There are toilets at the venue.”

Where to eat afterwards with kids:
🍣 Eazy Peazy Japanese – 1 min walk
🥗 Fishbowl – 1 min walk
🍝 Etto Pasta Bar – 1 min walk
🌮 Hecho En Mexico – 3 mins walk
🐟 Hunky Dory Fish’n’Chips – 4 mins walk

Every now and then an artist reaches into your heart and gently pulls at its strings with all the deft mastery of a puppeteer. Donovan Christie is one of them.

Nostalgia is a curious beast. Sometimes it creeps up on you, appearing as a sentimental longing for the past. Other times it whispers melancholy musings, seeping into the subconscious with sadness for times gone by. Often (and this is when nostalgia is most powerful) it appears as joy evoked by precious childhood memories. The “those were the days” kind of moments. Donovan navigates these emotions with each careful brushstroke.
