Explore colour through hands-on activities and interactive play at this large-scale exhibition from Questacon. Perfect for kids aged 5 to 14 years, this immersive experience at Scienceworks combines play-based learning and creative discovery, making it one of the best options for Melbourne indoor fun for the whole family.
Step into a vibrant, hands-on world of colour, illusion and perception. Colour: See the World in a New Light is an interactive science exhibition from Questacon featuring 21 playful exhibits that explore how colour is created, changed and understood. Visitors of all ages are invited to experiment with colour, optics and light in this immersive exhibition for the whole family.
Across four thematic zones – Seeing Colour, Coloured Light, Changing Colour, and Making Sense of Colour – visitors can experiment with light, materials and perception to discover how colour works and why it matters.
Each zone encourages curiosity, play and discovery, with multiple entry points for different ages and learning styles supporting open-ended exploration. Visitors can test optical illusions, manipulate colour, and experiment with colour perception.
Explore how colour shapes the way we see and understand the world. Through immersive environments and interactive experiments, visitors discover how coloured light is formed, how materials change colour, and how our brains interpret colour in different contexts.
Built by Museums Victoria and exclusive to Scienceworks, Colour in Action interactive adds a playful activity to bridge the science of colour and creativity. Using projected light and acrylic insect components, visitors design creatures to explore live colour mixing and the role of colour in nature, from camouflage to attraction.
Developed by Questacon – The National Science and Technology Centre, Canberra.
