50,000 to welcome Year of the Snake in Hurstville

This year marks the 22nd year that Lunar New Year is celebrated in the Georges River area. Hurstville’s Forest Road will come to life with 50,000 visitors expected to join in the celebrations and festivities throughout the day. One of the biggest Council-led Lunar New Year events in Sydney.

Locals and visitors will get to enjoy spectacular food and entertainment, traditional and cultural performances as they welcome luck and prosperity for the new year. 

WHEN: Saturday 1 February 2025

WHERE: Forest Road, Hurstville & Hurstville Plaza.

TIME: 12.00pm to 9.00pm

WHO:

Over 50,000 Georges River residents and visitors

  • Community members receiving lucky red envelopes from God of Wealth

  • Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg and Councillors

VISION OPPS:

  • Traditional eye-dotting ceremony for lion dance

  • Lion dancing, food stalls, dancers, drummers and roving entertainment

  • Georges River Council mascot Georgie the Dragon appearance

  • Families and kids getting their faces painted in a variety of designs

  • Community groups performing on stage including traditional and cultural dance, martial arts, singing and musical instruments

  • Lively markets along closed-off Forest Road with food, information, creative and product stalls

  • Marching band down Forest Road

  • Roving entertainment including Lion Dancing Kids.

  • New Business Precinct on Forest Road
