Having captivated almost two hundred thousand visitors since opening in November, this internationally acclaimed exhibition offers a once-in-a-lifetime journey through more than 3,000 years of ancient Peruvian civilisations—from the mysterious Chavín to the mighty Inca—featuring 134 priceless artefacts, dazzling treasures, and an award-winning virtual reality experience of Machu Picchu.

To celebrate the end of this exclusive exhibition’s run, the AM invites the public to a final Peruvian Nights at the Museum event on Wednesday 7 May, offering one last opportunity to enjoy the wonders of Peru, after dark.

Peruvian Nights at the Museum is a free evening celebration of Andean culture, with the Museum open until 9pm. The program features live music from celebrated Peruvian ensemble Duo Jimenez, special guest performances, and Afro-Peruvian rhythms from ALLY, filling Hintze Hall with the vibrant sounds of the Andes.

Visitors can partake in pisco sours and Peruvian-inspired snacks from La Cantina de Cusco, and explore the rich visual storytelling of World above, world below—a photo essay by Peruvian Australian photojournalist Isabella Melody Moore, capturing the fusion of Indigenous and Catholic traditions during Peruvian Carnaval.

Australian Museum Director and CEO, Kim McKay AO, invited visitors to take part in this fabulous fin de fiesta and explore the culture and legacy of ancient Peru.

“This extraordinary exhibition has given visitors a rare opportunity to step into the world of ancient Peru and experience the beauty and complexity of these civilisations.”

“With just weeks left, we encourage everyone to see Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru here in the heart of Sydney, before it closes. And we’re delighted to host one final Peruvian Nights at the Museum as a joyful and fun send-off to this unforgettable cultural experience,” Ms McKay said.
