Museum Victoria Summer School Holidays

Lots of fun to be had at Museum Victoria's museums these school holidays from Saturday 19th of December to Tuesday 26th of January.

Children can become experts on owls and nightjars at Melbourne Museum, discover new worlds and realities at Scienceworks, follow the path of migratory shorebirds at the Immigration Museum and watch the highly anticipated blockbuster Starwars: The Force Awakens 3D on the worlds’ third largest screen at IMAX Melbourne.

Melbourne museum's program will have little ones explore the amazing owls and frogmouths of Victoria with a range of family activities and experiences. Children should bring their binoculars to seek out species on a Night Bird Watch tour through the Forest Gallery and Wild Exhibit.

They can sketch beautiful specimens during You Can Call Me Owl drawing sessions. If your little one is not a night owl, they can visit the museum's activity rooms for a summer night backyard experience to see and hear some of the creatures that are active while we are asleep.

Immigration Museum's program will have children discover the journey of millions of shorebirds that migrate from Australia to Siberia every year with the Par Avian installation. They can also contribute their own message to this interactive installation developed by Kate Gorringe-Smith. Par Avian complements the Flyway Print Exchange exhibition on display in the Community Gallery from Tuesday 1st of December until Sunday 28th of February.

Scienceworks will have little ones blown away by the exciting air pressure show Blown Away and go on a scavenger hunt and experience new worlds with virtual reality sessions.

They can visit permanent exhibitions: Think Ahead, Alice’s Wonderland, Nitty Gritty Super City and Sportsworks; investigate the museum's collections or go on a guided tour of the Pumping Station. Budding astronomers can take their pick from a great selection of shows that are screening at the Planetarium: Solar System Odyssey, Blackholes, Starlight and Tycho to the Moon.
