'Tyrannosaurs - Meet the Family' at Scienceworks - Preview

Little Miss and I were invited at the preview of the new Scienceworks exhibition 'Tyrannosaurs - Meet the Family' this morning and we had a roaring time!

This exhibition was created by the Australian Museum and has been previously shown in Sydney and New Zealand. It showcases over 10 life-size skeletons as well as interactive setups for children to play and learn about the Tyrannosaurs family.

Although the exhibition is set in a dark environment with spotlights on the dinosaur skeletons, little Miss who is almost 3 wasn't scared and nor were her little friends Mr 4 and Miss 3. Little Miss was quite happy walking around and looking at the dinosaurs and touching the interactive screens. Little Miss' friend Mr 2 however was a bit scared of the setting so depending on your child, this exhibition may or may not be suitable.

Little Miss really liked watching the videos of dinosaurs running around Spotswood and Scienceworks on large screens and wanted to stay in the corridor for a while so she could make sure she spotted all the small and large dinos.

One of the impressive skeletons at the exhibition is Scotty the T-Rex who makes puppet shadows for visitors. Little Miss was a bit scared of the moving shadow but once I explained to her that Scotty was making a puppet she was fine.

There are a number of interactive setups throughout the exhibition where little ones can look at dinosaurs on the screen, for older kids to test their arm strength against a T-Rex, how to spot a T-Rex or look at a number of species.

Overall, this exhibition has a lot to offer, children and their parents can learn about this amazing family of dinosaurs. The dark settings and a few skeletons might scare some children so be aware of this before you go.

'Tyrannosaurs - Meet the Family' will be on at Scienceworks from this Saturday 23rd May till Sunday 4th October 2015.
