Australian Museum Spring School Holidays 2016 - Sydney

These Spring School Holidays, the Australian Museum will be hosting a range of exhibitions, activities and workshops to keep the kids busy and learning!

Join the Australian Museum these school holidays for a chance to make masks inspired by the Asaro Mud Men from Papua New Guinea in week 1 (September 24-30) and take part in the inaugural Dinosaur Festival in week 2 (October 1-9), which will see the galleries come to life with ground-thumping entertainment!

ASARO MUD MEN (Sep 24-30) Mask-making Viewing

Inhabitants of the Komunive village in Papua New Guinea are renowned for their fearsome clay headdresses (known as Holosa) and dramatic ritualised dance performances. Watch the visiting clay mask makers work and chat with them about their art. All ages. Dates: 25-30 September. Times: 10:15am performance, viewing 10:30am – 12:30pm & 1:30pm - 3:30pm Cost: Free for kids.

 Kids Mask Making Workshop

A great addition to your dress up box! Make your own mini mud mask from modelling clay to take home. Dates: 24-30 September. Ages 5 -12 years. Times: 10:15am performance and then workshop 10:30am – 3:30pm. Cost: $5 per child after general admission.

During the second week of the holidays, there will be a Dinosaur Festival held at the Australian Museum with lots of activities on for kids of all ages.

Palaeontology Club

Meet a palaeontologist, take part in Dino Trivia and prepare 75 million year-old Centrosaurus fossils. Think you know everything about dinosaurs? Think again! Learn about Australian fossil discoveries in this thrilling in-depth workshop that provides unprecedented access beyond the scenes. Ages: 4-7 Dates: 4, 7, 8 October. Times: 10:30am – 12:00pm. Ages 8-13. Dates: 4, 7, 8 October Times: 1:30pm – 3:00pm. Cost: $25 General Public, $15 Member. Only 15 kids per workshop, bookings essential.

Dinosaur Diorama Craft

Get creative and make your very own Dinosaur diorama. Turn a simple box into a miniature world and travel back to a time when Dinosaurs roamed the Earth. Limited to age 5+ years. Dates 1 – 9 October. Time: 10.30am – 3.30pm, daily. Cost $5 per child (after general admission).

Jurassic Joe Dinosaur Show

A fun-filled musical ride through the amazing world of prehistoric reptiles that gets the whole family singing, dancing, laughing and learning. Dates: 4, 5, 6, 7 October. Times: 10:30am, 12:00pm. Cost: $8 per child after general admission.

Scientist for a day: Secrets of the Earth - Discovering Dinosaurs

Welcome to a day of monstrous fun! Bite into the greatest Dinosaur discoveries and learn how palaeontologists uncover the secrets of Earth. Put your fossil-finding skills to the test as we dig up the wonders resting below us and discover our very own finds. Limited to children aged 8-12 years. When: 5 & 6 October. Time: 9am – 3pm. Cost $110 AM Member; $135 non-Member.
