Sydney Zoo - Sydney - Review
Today, the kids and I and the crew from @allthingsmomsydney were invited to the NEW Sydney Zoo in Bungarribee (about one hour from Sydney CBD) to take part in the first opening of the zoo before it officially opens to the public this Sunday 7th December 2019.
The Sydney Zoo was founded in 2015, it covers 16.5 hectares, will have over 90 exotic and native species, has 5 unique precincts and is expected to attract 1 million visitors a year and attract both local & international visitors and create 160 full time jobs. The zoo is fully accessible and has many drinking and toilet facilities and parents rooms located around the zoo.
We started our tour of the Sydney Zoo via the Australia precinct where we saw dingos, kangaroos, wallabies and emus wondering about.
We were invited to hear the sounds of kookaburras, crows, dingoes and other animals on the didjeridu.
We were very privileged to meet a one year old wombat and pat him. Little Mister hasn’t stopped talking about it! And his sister and him loved touching a female blue tongue lizard and talking to the keeper about her.
We then headed to the Reptiles & Nocturnal precinct where we saw many species of snakes, reptiles, nocturnal animals like ringtail possums, bilbies, the list goes on! The potoroos and spotted quoll were our favourite. A few animals are still on their way to the zoo so keep an eye out.
We then made our way to the Aquarium precinct where our friend the Bull Shark was missing as he is coming soon but the drawing made the kids laugh!
The kids squealed when they saw the Little Penguins walk and swim around!
We were lucky to also see the fish being fed and a lady putting salt in the tank using a funny outfit ha!
As mentioned in our social post, some of the animals and sites at the Sydney Zoo are not yet complete. Some animals are either still on their way to the zoo or trying to get used to their new area so you might miss a few things and animals on your visit until things settle down. The kids zone is not yet complete with the playground still needing much needed shading and the children’s zoo with farm animals still needing to be populated.
Little Miss was a bit upset that her favourite Sumatran Tiger in the South East Asia precinct wasn’t out today however he is still a bit shy and the keepers are giving him all the time he needs to adapt to his new area.
The kids were happy when they found mist stations in different spots around the zoo and the Lions area had nice shading and breeze to it today which was comforting in the heat.
After some lunch at the Boulevard Eatery close to the meerkats, we made our way to the Africa precinct where we saw camels, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, lions, ostriches, hyena and beautiful African painted dogs. The water buffalo was having a rest in his area and it was cute to see the capybaras. Our friends the elephants are still yet to come too.
We went back to see our friends the meerkats and were lucky to listen to a keeper talk and feeding where little meerkats were happy eating mealworms.
We finished up checking out the Primates precinct where we saw baboons, chimpanzees and spider monkeys. Capuchin monkeys and orangutans are still to come.
After an amazing day, we made our way through the Sydney Zoo shop and were full of memories!
Thanks for having us Sydney Zoo - we had a ball!
