The Lighthouse - Arts Centre Melbourne - Melbourne - Review
Kate and her family were invited to experience The Lighthouse at the Arts Centre Melbourne last week. This is what they had to say “Last night we travelled through a series of interconnected rooms each full of hands-on experiences exploring light, sound, perspective & reflection. This immersive performance was unlike anything we had ever experienced before - the poppets were absolutely mesmerised.”.
Designed for all ages, The Lighthouse created by Path Theatre is an interactive light and sound wonderland. It has been described as an immersive promenade performance which is part installation, part scientific quest and part rave.
Taking light out of traditional theatre spaces and moving it into a new terrain, The Lighthouse puts children and their families at the centre of an exploration of light.
All tickets from 5th to 17th July have been sold out however a few sessions seem to be available and new sessions have been rumoured to be released this week due to high demand.
Think science and art, this performance will spark little ones’ curiosity at the world around them and with the use of light, sound, perspective and reflection. The performance will also encourage kids and their parents/carers to engage and experiment.
Kids can experiment with light and colour with their own lens to reflect light.
And watch a fascinating show of lights being drawn on the floor and light projected in the air and a giant bubble being constructed in the middle of the stage.
The performance contains haze, loud bass and lighting effects. The Lighthouse is a promenade work where audience members will travel through spaces inside of Arts Centre Melbourne via a path that includes multiple sets of stairs. Wheelchair users and patrons with limited mobility are advised to book into the Accessible sessions, which occur twice daily. In these sessions, the audience path will include lift access, and the timing of the experience will be adapted to account for longer audience travel.
Busy City Kids were hosted by the Arts Centre Melbourne for the purposes of a review. Travel & parking was self funded. All opinions & feedback are genuine & truthful.
