Osmo Math Wizard - Amazing Airships - Review
The Osmo Math Wizard suite is now available as a game bundle. We loved reviewing the Magical Workshop, Secrets of the Dragons and Enchanted World Games parts, so we couldn’t wait to review their NEW game Osmo Math Wizard and Amazing Airships.
Osmo Math Wizard and Amazing Airships engages kids to build & design airships for the many island residents of Spellbarrow Port. Kids along with Rupert the robot mouse and his magical wrench, need to use maths thinking to deliver packages and navigate through challenges of thunderstorms and high winds. This game introduces building and balancing equations, addition and subtraction practice, solving for an unknown value and introduces children to algebraic thinking.
Osmo Math Wizard and Amazing Airships is incorporated in the Osmo Math Wizard app which can be downloaded from app stores and comes with a special Toolbox case with 1 magical board, 16 ship pieces, 12 balloon pieces and 16 cargo pieces.
To load the Amazing Airships component of the Osmo Maths Wizard game, scan the Spellbarrow Port card. Once connected, you can start playing the game. You will be asked to setup the level of difficulty for your child at the start and as they go along things get trickier for them. Once it’s all set, your child can start building their airship using blueprints!
When the game starts, Rupert the robot mouse receives a call by a customer - giraffe. A little story comes up where he is asked to carry some packages of fresh plants using the airships to a customer. For example in this scenario, little Miss was asked to load 5 cargo pieces to the Giraffe customer. On the blueprint magic board, she loaded up five cargo pieces and added supporting ship and balloon pieces so that the cargo pieces don’t fall if the airship is in the air and flips side to side or upside down.
Whilst loading up all elements, she needed to make sure that she put the correct number of ship pieces, balloon pieces and cargo pieces so that they all equal to a certain number that the game asks her to. Once little Miss was happy with her Amazing Airship, she sent it off to fly in the rough winds and thunderstorms. Sometimes some of the cargo fell because of the structure she had in place so she had to go back to the blue print board and secure the cargo using other pieces whilst still making sure the total number was correct.
She managed to solve the maths problem and other elements successfully and delivered the cargo to the customer. All plants were successfully delivered and there was a celebration. Once each challenge is successfully completed, some reward points were given to little Miss’ collection.
Kids can access the store to buy elements of the game using the reward points from challenges and buy cool features to improve their Amazing Airships. They can also complete extra challenges to unlock more rewards and so on.
As they continue with the game, they can solve more complex maths problems as they deliver more cargo to customers.
Little Miss was particularly interested in the Osmo Math Wizard and the Amazing Airships game due to its fine elements and complexity of tasks and was challenged when her ships kept dropping cargo which made her think twice about putting the right measures in place as well as solving the maths problems presented.
This game is perfect for kids 6 to 8 years old and will let parents select the maths level where the child is up at the beginning of the game.
