Jurassic World by Brickman at Australian Museum in Sydney

NOW EXTENDED UNTIL THE 17th JULY

Last Sunday, little Mister and I headed to Jurassic World by Brickman at the Australian Museum. It wasn’t hard to convince him to come when I showed him preview pictures of the impressive Lego built dinosaurs and the possibility of building some Lego!

After entering the Australian Museum, we headed for the exhibition on the main floor. As we came in the exhibition, we found a table with a Lego version of the Jurassic World island, four round building tables and a section of built Lego under perspex with the island with Lego figurines where we tried to locate two of the characters for a chance to win some cool Lego packs.

The next room invited us to contribute a small square towards a large mosaic. Each person gets a specific square to build with specific small colour cubes to use.

In this cool Lab, there is another section where Lego fans can build hybrid and dinosaurs inspired by a the Jurassic World lab and then display it for others to see.

The next room is the Baby Dinosaur room which was very impressive to look at. A mix of standard Lego and Lego Duplo used to build baby dinosaurs as well as one impressive Brachiosaurus!

In the Baby Dinosaur room, there are two long Lego Duplo tables and shelves where kids can build and display their build. Little Mister built so many, the lady had to break some down to release some Duplo for others hah! He just loved this area, we were there for quite some time.

Once we were finished in the Baby Dinosaur section, we headed downstairs for more! A good thing to note, once you head downstairs you’re not able to come back up so best make sure you look around and do everything you need to upstairs. We checked about access as there was a line at the mosaic section when we first walked in so we headed back there after Lego Duplo to make sure we completed the build.

Downstairs, you will find the Control Room where you guessed it - kids are invited to build, this time with different Lego bricks again and following certain patterns to match dinosaur footprints! Parents and carers are also invited to join, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Alternatively, kids can build as they wish and then display their masterpiece on the footprint plate.

We were then invited to checkout another room with some crazy Velociraptors (I know I’m learning all my dinosaur names today!). Apparently putting ones head or hand in one is a good idea ha!

We then checked out the impressive Mosasaurus mosaic which was built with 107,688 lego bricks in 399 hours. We probably have that much Lego at home, shame the kids can’t build something like that ha!

We then headed to the last room of the exhibition which is quite a big room with lots of things to do including checking out an impressive Lego T-Rex and Jeep all made of Lego bricks - just as scary as in the movies!

In the room, kids will love the three different stations where they can build cars to race them up/down/across the race tracks. Little Mister really loved the possibilities in this room! It did get a bit busy but he still managed to spend a good time there too!

After grabbing some goodies at the Museum Shop inside the exhibition, we headed outside for morning tea - hungry after all that building ha! There were many interesting Lego Jurassic Park sets throughout the café area next to the exhibition to look at, some good gift ideas now in mind.

As we left, we checked out the never-before-seen Baryonyx model weighing in at 400kg, this newest Jurassic World by Brickman dinosaur took 790 hours to design and was created using 102,317 LEGO® bricks and is unique to this Sydney version of the exhibition! We quite liked him - somehow little Mister wants his arm chopped off at every model haha!

Little Mister really loved the exhibition and asked if we could go again, I was very pleased to see him really getting into it, looking a the LEGO Jurassic builds but most importantly seeing him build away for a good one hour and half. He really enjoyed himself which was great to see. We were there on a Sunday morning which was a bit busy being the first opening weekend and rainy day too. If you have a preschooler and you can head there on weekdays, I would recommend so you can take all the time building away.

We were going to visit the rest of the museum and see the real dinosaurs in the Dinosaurs exhibit however we had to leave due to family commitments but I highly recommend you visit the museum before or after your Jurassic World by Brickman visit.

There are lots of toilets onsite, a café next to the exhibition and there is parking nearby. We parked at Wilson Parking on Riley Street short walk away and paid $8 that Sunday booking online. More info how to get there here.
