Antopia at the Melbourne Museum - Review
From the creators of the award-winning exhibition Tyama comes Antopia - perfect for families, kids and adults.
With an estimated 20 quadrillion (or 20 million billion) ants globally, there are quite a few around! They may be grow in many shapes and sizes but have one thing in common - they all use the language of pheromones.
The Antopia exhibition consists of five interactive and immersive spaces: Pheromone Wash, Nursery, Mother Queen, Pantry and Outside.
Each room has beautiful digital animations, interactive projections that respond to visitors’ movements and innovative 3D sculptures and interactive sensory lighting.
Miss, her brother and cousins loved the Pheromone Wash space and so did I! This room is super interactive and we loved it! As you walk in the room, ants follow you around. Mister explained to me that your quest is to convince ants to follow you and then help them join their colony on the nearby screens. A really fun room which demonstrates how the pheromone chemical works.
Another space is the Nursery room where cute baby ant eggs glow and grow to fill the nursery space. You can even touch the soft fabric ant eggs, see them glow in the dark or see your clothes glow too!
A fun and very interactive room is the Mother Queen room where visitors send messages to the Queen via metal turn tables and dance away!
The gorgeous Pantry room is where ants store food to eat now or later - or both! Visitors can also make cool food sculptures with 3D foam pieces.
Last but not least, supersized blades of grass tower the Outside room where you can help worker ants gather food and keep the colony safe from external dangers while admiring gorgeous projections.
We really enjoyed Antopia and its gorgeous colourful projections and interactive moments!
To coincidence with the Antopia exhibition, the Melbourne Museum will be running exciting activities, shows and tours. The IMAX 3D cinema will also be playing the Bugs 3D: Micro Monsters movie to celebrate the incredible superpowers of ants, scorpions, beetles and many more micro monsters!
