OUR REVIEW & PHOTOS 20TH OCTOBER 2024

#sydney Dear Evan Hansen, today was a good day! Miss and I headed to the Roslyn Packer Theatre. We had never seen a production of Dear Evan Hansen before or even read the book or seen the movie so we dived into the unknown of the narrative, looking forward to being surprised and came out of the theatre with some tears and a sense of belonging. In order to keep the surprises for those waiting to see the show, we will only talk about the production and cast members. This production by the @sydneytheatreco and @michaelcasselgroup was truly moving, heartfelt and the cast brought the characters to life in such a way that it brought out many feelings and memories of both struggle and hope. The topics of mental health, sense of self, sense of belonging and social media made it relatable and drew the audience. Beau Woodbridge who played Evan Hansen, was truly outstanding and the audience loved him from the very first act. Georgia Laga’aia who played Zoe Murphy was stunning and had a touching voice. Verity Hunt-Ballard who played Evan Hansen’s mother Heidi was a very strong and relatable character. Harry Target who played Connor Murphy brought a mix of emotions to the play. The cast, production crew and the musicians did an amazing job of this production with their versions of the songs. We really loved it, just amazing! Miss thought some parts were sad but she could relate to many parts. Dear Evan Hansen is recommended for audience ages 12+. This production contains some adult themes, strong language including discussions of suicide. Children under the age of four will not be permitted in the theatre. The show is on now until 1st December. #hosted #invited #dearevanhansen #dearevanhansenmusical #dearevanhansenau #roslynpackertheatre

The Tony Award-winning sensation has its Australian premiere

Sydney Theatre Company and Michael Cassel Group, the company that brought Hamilton and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child to our shores, join forces for the Australian premiere of this radiant Broadway musical sensation.

Dear Evan Hansen is the raw, moving and inspiring story of a socially anxious highschooler who is suddenly thrust into the spotlight when he inadvertently invents an important role for himself at the centre of a local tragedy.

Called a “breathtaking knockout of a musical” by The New York Times and the winner of six Tony Awards, including Best Book by writer Steven Levenson, Dear Evan Hansen features music from the Grammy and Academy Award-winning geniuses Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (La La Land, The Greatest Showman) and a story that journeys to the heart of the contemporary teenage condition with a tenderness and wit that will set your heart alight.

In a brand-new production helmed by one of Australia’s great interpreters of musical theatre, Dean Bryant (Fun Home, Hubris & Humiliation), Dear Evan Hansen is an empowering and uplifting experience for anyone who’s ever considered themselves on the “outside, always looking in”.

Book by Steven Levenson; Music and Lyrics by Benj Pasek & Justin Paul
