Artists in Focus is a changing presentation of works from the MCA Collection.
Representing work acquired by the MCA since 1989, these new displays offer the opportunity to appreciate shared and varied concerns, materials and approaches to contemporary art in Australia from across generations and cultures. Recent acquisitions are displayed alongside Collection highlights, offering diverse perspectives on the art of now.
Presented in individual galleries are paintings, sculptures, installations and video works by Collection artists Brook Andrew, Joan Brassil, Maree Clarke, Kevin Gilbert, Fiona Hall, Jumaadi, James Nguyen, Leyla Stevens and Esme Timbery. A selection of 68 bark paintings from the Arnott’s Biscuits Collection showcases the work of Aboriginal artists from the communities of Groote Eylandt, Yirrkala, Galiwin’ku, Milingimbi, Maningrida, Ramingining, Gunbalanya, Wadeye and the Tiwi Islands.
MCA Collection: Artists in Focus is curated by Pedro de Almeida, Anna Davis, Jane Devery, Anneke Jaspers, Keith Munro, Rebecca Ray, Megan Robson, Manya Sellers and Lara Strongman.
