Join us for a celebration of Afghan culture, co-produced with artist Bibi Goul Mossavi, for Hive Festival at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
Drop into a hands-on workshop any time between 2.30pm and 4.30pm where you’ll decorate a traditional kite and be guided by Afghan calligrapher Akbar Farhad to write a message of hope to add to your kite. During this time, there’ll also be live music from Afghan performer Abbas Haidari. As the celebration draws to an end, we’ll step outside to try flying the kites we’ve created.
Kite flying is integral to many Afghan celebrations, for which children and families often buy beautifully decorated kites or make their own personalised ones. For Hive, you’re invited to join with members of the Afghan community in Sydney to celebrate kites as symbols of freedom and hope.
