The Whale (Free)

Part of the Sydney Festival

Spare Parts Puppet Theatre & Bondi Pavilion

This graceful giant of the ocean, the whale, has inspired cultures around the world holding a special place in stories and legends. The sight of a whale in the water moves even the most stoic heart to wonderment.

As you stroll through the Bondi Pavilion Courtyard, you will be awed by the large-scale whale suspended in space. It moves majestically as if on migration down the coastline. Surrounding the whale is a collection of fantastical creatures, hanging from the surrounds. With both storytelling and an enchanting original score, audiences will be transported on a sonic journey of migration and myth. As the sun sets, a magical night-time lightscape will envelop the whale, creatures and fantastical world.

Audiences will have the opportunity to join the puppeteers to bring these magnificent creatures to life, helping them swim through an immersive underwater world.

This will be an immersive and interactive experience for families, to learn about the beauty of the whale, their vital role in our ecosystem and our community, and what we can all do to protect them.
