Anne Being Frank a new play by Ron Elisha (Reviewed)

#sydney REVIEW - Anne Being Frank: The Story She Never Lived to Write at the Sydney Opera House.

I was invited to attend the opening night of this new play by @ronelisha_writer starring @alexis_fishman. After rave reviews in New York, the show premiered in Australia last week and is playing until this Sunday 21st September.

Anne Being Frank is a reimagined story of the iconic Anne Frank about her life and her diaries, some of which were never found.

Having read the book in primary school, I was instantly interested to watch this new play. The gripping and emotionally charged performance transported the audience on a journey through the past. Internationally acclaimed performer Alexis Fishman played five characters with four different accents for a non-stop 90 minutes. Her performance took us through a range of emotions and a portrayal of hardship that left us hoping for change.

I did not take Miss due to the rating. However, I’ll be keeping an eye out for upcoming plays where Miss can see Alexis Fishman perform, as she was an absolute powerhouse on the night. She switched between characters, costumes, settings, and delivered all those lines with such skill. She was just phenomenal!

Anne Being Frank – The Story She Never Lived to Write closes this Sunday 21 September. Parental guidance is recommended for teens 15 years and over due to adult content, adult themes, violence and war-related stories.

Had she known what was to come, would Anne Frank still have written the famous line: ‘In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart’?

What if Anne Frank kept writing?

This multi-award-winning play is a complete reimagining of the iconic Anne Frank story.

It asks us to consider what “could have been” and moves between three worlds - the secret annex where Anne's family are in hiding; Bergen Belsen where, sick and starving, she lives out her final days; and an unfulfilled future in a swanky New York publishing house where we meet the bright, debut author who with devastating new insight is rewriting her manuscript for publication. Her editor dearly wishes to maintain the innocence of the original, but Anne is on a quest to tell the truth.
