Experience Nixon’s extraordinary oeuvre of abstract art through a selection of works from across five decades.
This exhibition is the first major survey to trace Nixon’s (1949–2020) career from his beginnings in the late 1960s and 1970s as a minimal and conceptual artist, through his 1980s installations combining paintings with readymade objects, to his later decades of continued innovation and expansion.
An influential and collaborative figure, Nixon approached abstraction as a way of engaging with the world—through clarity, simplicity, and experimentation. His vibrant, materially diverse paintings combine bold geometric forms with repurposed materials, and affirm his belief in the unity of art and life.
Highlighting Nixon’s long-running Experimental Painting Workshop (EPW), the exhibition also reflects his wider interest in experimental photography, music, theatre, and film.
