Monarto Safari Park - Adelaide - Review
In July last year when we visited Adelaide, we headed to the Monarto Safari Park which is one of the largest open-range Zoos in the world. Home to more than 500 animals and 50 exotic and native mammals, birds and reptiles, it’s a fantastic place to visit with the kids.
Park your car at the Visitor Centre and make your way onto one of the Safari buses that goes around the Monarto Safari Park. You can also walk around the Safari Park if you prefer. As you are driven along, you will see many different animals from around the world such as bisons, waterbucks, giraffes, zebras, deers, ostriches and more.
We were quite impressed with the number of giraffes onsite as we stopped to watch them eat. We got off the main safari bus and went on a smaller bus to the lions, hyaenas and african wild dogs however they were in hiding mode as it was quite warm.
We went back to the Visitor centre where we had our picnic lunch and played in the playground & sandpit and walked around to checkout the meerkats.
The kids climbed the famous Shandu rhino sculpture to take a few snaps and we slowly made our way through the wallaby track to see the chimpanzees.
It was great to see the chimpanzees and the baby chimpanzee Hope which Jane Goodall named months prior when she visited Australian Zoos.
We really enjoyed visiting the Monarto Safari Park and can’t wait to visit it again on future Adelaide trips!
Our tips:
The Monarto Safari Park is located at Old Princes Hwy in Monarto South which is 1 hour from Adelaide CBD.
The Monarto Safari Park is open every day except in the event of total fire bans however check their website for opening hours, map and special animal feeding talks etc.
Admission varies with one day pass, two day passes available if you want to visit the Adelaide Zoo too and reciprocal rights from interstate Zoos is available but check terms & conditions for kids tickets as we had to pay for kids even though we are Taronga Zoo members.
Bring some snacks and lunch and water for your visit. There is a café onsite with food & beverages too.
Toilets are located at the Visitor Centre and around the Monarto Safari Park (male, female, disabled and baby change facilities available).
Busy City Kids were NOT invited to the Monarto Safari Park for the purposes of a review. We used reciprocal rights from our Taronga Zoo membership. All opinions & feedback are genuine & truthful. Travel, food and fee paying activities were self funded.
