The Calyx: Inside the Tide at The Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney
This week, we headed to The Calyx at the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney. The NEW theme Inside the Tide lets you explore a marine dream of coral, kelp and coast.
Kids can look out for sea creatures among 20,000 plants on display including the Kelp Forests, Coral Reefs and Seagrass Meadows. We found lobsters, a blue ringed octopus, fish, jelly fish a green moray eel, star fish and more.
Among the interesting sea creatures, we learned about some important plants that are great for the environment and our health. This year's display has also enlisted the help of hundreds school children from across NSW, who in 2021 created Codium seaweeds when undertaking educational workshops with the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney learning about the threats to coastal environments and how to best care for habitats.
There weren’t any kids activities at the exhibition due to covid however The Calyx is amazing if you spent time to explore all the plants and aspects onsite. Kids can however turn a wheel to make a shark made from recycled bodysuits move and watch a show about being Seaweed Superheroes.
The Calyx - Inside the Tide exhibition is open daily 10am to 4pm and on now until June 2022. Free with suggested donation of $5. For more info, head here.
