Nguwing nura - Nocturnal House at Taronga Zoo - Review
The nguwing nura - Nocturnal House opened in Tarong late Spring 2023 and spans over 100 meters.
Nguwing nura is from Sydney First Language and means ‘Night Country’. The nguwing nura - Nocturnal House is an immersive experience where Taronga Zoo guests are taken on a journey to discover native Australian nocturnal species and gain a deeper understanding of the relationship and connection between First Nations Cultures and Country.
Nguwing nura - Nocturnal Country, is the final stage of Nura Diya Australia which combines four unique landscapes bura nura - Kangaroo Country, gulamany nura - Koala Country and wuragal nura - Dingo Country. The full Nura Diya Australia experience is home to 23 unique and iconic Australian species and approximately 270 individual animals.
When we visited, we loved the new nocturnal house’s look, aesthetics and accessibility - all walk-through.
The Spinifex Hopping Mice were our favourite along with the Chuditch (Western Quoll). We also saw bats, sugar gliders, some Greater Bilbies and a platypus. The Fat-tailed Dunnarts were ever so cute too!
Make sure you visit nguwing nura - Nocturnal House and the ARC - Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Centre (our review here) next time you visit Taronga Zoo.
