Mimaru Kyoto Station with Kids - Tokyo - Review
The Mimaru Kyoto Station in Kyoto is a great family friendly apartment hotel by the popular family hotel chain Mimaru. It is listed as a 4 star hotel on Google and is conveniently located close to the Kyoto Station and is a very short 2 minute walk from the Kyoto Station Hachijo East Exit. This super location is great for anyone travelling within Kyoto or day trips into Nara, Osaka, Kobe, the list goes on! There is a 7 Eleven from the hotel too which has the Smoothies - our favourite! This apartment hotel is popular for Pokemon lovers with Pokemon decorated rooms!

After staying at a couple of Mimaru Apartment hotels during our first visit to Japan in 2013 and staying at Hotel Imagine Kyoto, we chose to stay at the Mimaru Kyoto Station hotel due to its proximity to the Kyoto station and for Western style beds. We booked the Garden View Family Apartment for our stay for something different, it was nice to have some fresh air but probably better during non Winter months for full use. We noticed this room had a connecting door for both the room and the garden which I assume can be used to connect this room and the room next door if you have a larger group or are travelling with another family. The room number was 101 from memory on the ground floor near the lifts and lobby but we didn’t hear much noise from either during the night.

The room has two nice size single beds and two single beds in a double bunk for kids to use, ours loved them as they had little lights and beds were comfy. I particularly enjoyed the comfort of the beds and pillows in this hotel. There is an extra quilt cover in the wardrobe or you can ask staff at front desk for warmer blankets if needed.

We loved the view onto the courtyard and the little courtyard itself which in warmer months would be perfect I imagine!

The room had a couch which can fit 3 people on one side and 2 on the other or more with little ones. The TV was not a smart TV to the kids disappointment but we were able to connect to the HDMI cable provided via our laptops. The room also had the standard Mimaru Kitchenette with basic appliances, pots and pans and a little stove with exhaust if you need to cook as well as fridge/freezer and microwave.

The room also had a nice size bathroom area with seperate Japanese toilet, seperate sink area and wet room with shower and bath and towel hanging stick which can be used to dry clothes from too.

You can rent kids games as well as some appliances from the front desk. Our room had a little drying hanging rack which was great to use to dry socks, undies and small items in our room. You can ask the front desk for a drying rack which is a bit bigger and takes a bit of real estate in the room which you can use to hang coat hangers from to dry clothes on which you prefer not to tumble dry. The hotel seemed to have one of these or perhaps a couple but very limited. Ask the staff at the counter if you need one.

The hotel has a laundromat with 4 washing machines and 4 dryers. Washing machines are 400 Yen per load which takes 30 minutes and dryers 100 Yen for 30 minutes too. The washing machines have inbuilt laundry detergent and the water is at room temperature (yes I was nerdy to ask regarding the temperature ha!). The laundromat gets very busy night time so best to do some things early mornings if you are an early riser or before dinner time.

Our tips:
Mimaru Kyoto Station is located at 15-1 Higashikujo Higashisanno-cho, Minami-ku, Kyoto 601-8004.
Locate lifts within the station or escalators if you are carrying suitcases but the station is generally quite accessible.
Access the hotel is on the main street next to the Kyoto Station.
Check-in in most hotels in Japan is not before 3pm. We arrived just before checkin and our room was available so we moved to our room straight away. The staff at the hotel are always happy to keep suitcases before/after check-in at reception.
