On the Move - Museum of Sydney - Sydney - Review

Illustrator James Gulliver Hancock along with museum curator Mel Flyte recently opened the On the Move exhibition at the Museum of Sydney and we are so happy for it! We popped into the exhibition today along with our friends over at @allthingsmomsydney and spent two hours there but could have easily stayed for three hours as the kids enjoyed it so much.

Kids and families will be taken on a journey around Australia, finding out about facts about different modes of transport and vehicles and see how transport modes have evolved over time with the trials, the failures and the successes. Stories of pioneers include Kathleen Howell, Jean Robertson and their dog Barney, who mapped areas of Australia in their Italian sports car and aviatrix Nancy Bird Walton – the youngest female pilot in Australia.

In the first area of the exhibition, kids can checkout different modes of transport on the Australia map, go from one place to another using the string wall, colour in different cars, make a paper plane and make it fly, understand how traffic gridlock works and have fun with balls that move from one area to another.

Kids can discover how transportation works in busy cities, how fuel choices you make can have a positive impact on the environment and pretend play in the little shop where you can buy the food of the future - bugs.

Little Miss and his sister loved the little electrical and petrol cars, they enjoyed looking under the bonnet, charging the electrical car battery, putting petrol in a car, taking tyres off, putting them back on and touching all the buttons possible ha!

Kids can touch the Reinvent the Wheel screen and see the evolution of transport in little drawings - how a bike, car, boat, train etc evolved over time.

Little Mister spent most of his time in the LEGO future car building and testing area where he kept building cars and test driving them on the two test driving ramps. Little Miss enjoyed it too and it was fun to hear and watch them get into it so much.
