OUR REVIEW OF THE WOMAN IN BLACK!
Review Friday 2nd August 2024 - Headed to The Woman in Black at the Theatre Royal Sydney this evening expecting a ghost story of the theatrical kind but I didn’t realise I would leave terrified and thinking I saw a real ghost!
The duo of John Waters and Daniel MacPherson was outstanding, they didn’t miss a second to impress us with this chilling, eerie and terrifying English tale which kept us on the edge of our seat, scared and holding onto friends nearby or in my case talking too much as I was so scared Their acting was so flawless and life-like, we thought we were living the scenes with them right by their side.
The set may have been minimal but what they did with it was very clever combined with the eerie dark setting and the sounds but our minds was our worse enemy at times imagining the worst.
This performance definitely showed me the true sense of theatre.
Our first time at the Theatre Royal Sydney, such a beautiful venue which had drinks themed with the ghostly evening as well as merch and nice salty popcorn and delicious ice creams. Don’t miss this excellent performance. Ok I will try and sleep now, wish me luck!
The Woman in Black is now showing at the Theatre Royal Sydney until 18th August. Age recommendation is 12 years+ and smoke haze for effects.
THE TERRIFYING ORIGINAL. LIVE ON STAGE.
Presented by PW Productions, Woodward Productions and Neil Gooding Productions.
After three decades in the West End, The Woman in Black is coming to Australia. Starring incredible duo John Waters (Doctor Doctor, Offspring, Rake) and Daniel MacPherson (Land of Bad, Foundation, Neighbours), don’t miss this thrilling theatrical exploration of terror.
Susan Hill’s acclaimed ghost story comes dramatically alive in Stephen Mallatratt’s ingenious stage adaptation – “The most brilliantly effective spine-chiller you will ever encounter” (Daily Telegraph). Robin Herford’s gripping production is a brilliantly successful study in atmosphere, illusion and controlled horror. “One of British theatre’s biggest – and scariest – hits” (The Guardian).
Britain’s second longest running play after The Mousetrap, The Woman in Black tells the story of a lawyer obsessed with a curse that he believes has been cast over him and his family by the spectre of a Woman in Black. He engages a sceptical young actor to help him tell his terrifying story and exorcise the fear that grips his soul. It all begins innocently enough, but then, as they reach further into his darkest memories, they find themselves caught up in a world of eerie marshes and moaning winds.
