On our recent visit to the Australian National Maritime Museum, we visited the Valerie Taylor: An Underwater Life exhibition, an intimate and interesting exhibition based on the life of Australian Marine Pioneer Valerie Taylor.

The Valerie Taylor: An Underwater Life exhibition is a close up into Valerie Taylor’s fascinating life. She shares her knowledge and experience of the ocean and marine life and shares objects and imagery that span over 60 years. Valerie Taylor: An Underwater Life is on until 31st August 2024.

She also shares her passion to better protect our ocean, its animals and their habitats in photos and text outlining decline in some species and more as well as current ocean warriors.

It also touches on her relationship with late husband Ron and their work in conservation, diving and underwater photography and filming.

There is a small interactive projection wall that kids can touch and a video showing Valerie Taylor’s extraordinary life if they wish to skip the reading bits.

Valerie Taylor: An Underwater Life is an interesting exhibition and on until 31st August 2024. We also visited and reviewed Kids on Deck, Octopus Garden, Great Southern LEGO®️ Reef and Ocean Photographer of the Year 2023 exhibition during our visit.

  • Pack a water bottle and snacks for your visit.

  • Pack a towel and swimmers for the kids if they would like to water play at Kids on Deck (our review).

  • The museum has a café which is located downstairs from reception. Ripples Café has a great selection of drinks, snacks, food or ice cream and lots of seating area to catch a break.

  • Toilets are located next to Kids on Deck near Reception or in Ripples Café.
