Osmo Math Wizard - The Secrets of the Dragons - Review
Osmo Math Wizard is now a kit with 2 games Magical Workshop and The Secrets of the Dragons great for kids 6-8 years. We were gifted the The Secrets of the Dragons which focuses on using non-standard units to measure such as cms and inches and encourages kids to use a ruler to measure which is great for little Miss as she does this in Maths at school and great for her little brother to learn numbers and how to read a ruler. Kids are also encouraged to estimate and add lengths via the app and the ruler.
The Secrets of the Dragons kit comes with a Dragon Guidebook which has 20 different dragons (3 different size each) and 62 food tokens to choose from as well as two rulers (cms and inches). The kit does not include the Osmo base which is sold separately or can be used from a different kit that has the base included. You just download the app from Appstore and off you go!
The kit also came with a Dragon Reserve postcard which unlocks a world where dragons live.
Kids need to find dragons and measure up to 20 different dragons with each coming in 3 different sizes. This encourages kids to find the right page number where the dragon is, identify the right dragon from the 3 listed and then use the correct ruler and measure the dragon or estimate its length. Once they have measured the dragon correctly, they can find other dragons around.
As they find dragons and go along the game, they can feed each dragon using the 52 food tokens provided. When feeding each dragon, they must ensure the dragon likes the food they are choosing and they must fill-in the measured area of the right dragon with food which can be all the same and a mix of different foods.
Once the dragon is fed it goes away and once all dragons are fed, the world they are in clears of dragons and new dragon eggs pop up around the game. It’s very cute and the kids really enjoyed that bit and the hatching of eggs and new dragons!
The more dragons kids measure & feed, the more worlds they unlock and new dragon egg hatch dragon babies and the game expands in many ways. Kids can also earn badges and also take part in different options and games within the game.
The kids really enjoyed Osmo Maths Wizard - Secrets of the Dragons and have played it daily since we received it. They played it individually, took turns and also played it together to uncover new baby dragons quicker by helping each other with measuring and feeding the dragons. We love a fun game with some hidden Maths, perfect to keep maths active during the school holidays!
